How to Bet on the NBA on Polymarket: Moneylines, Spreads, Totals and Player Props

An NBA game on Polymarket carries a moneyline, a ladder of spread lines, totals, first-half and quarter markets, and player props for points, rebounds, assists and threes. This guide covers what each market is, how it settles, what home court was worth (NBA home teams won 55.6% of 2,583 settled Polymarket games), what a study of 61,981 large NBA bets found about pricing, and how to follow the season on 0xinsider.

An NBA game on Polymarket

Polymarket lists each NBA game as an event with a moneyline that pays $1 on the team that wins. Around it sit the other market families, grouped on the event page: spreads, totals, first-half and quarter markets, and player props.

Take Game 5 of the 2026 Finals, Knicks vs. Spurs on June 13, 2026. Polymarket listed 119 markets on that one game: the moneyline carried $18.77 million in volume, a ladder of 41 spread lines carried $3.67 million, and 25 total lines carried $1.11 million. Around those sat first-half moneyline, spread and total markets, an odd/even total-points market, a first-team-to-score market, and 30 player-prop markets across points, rebounds and assists.

The moneyline usually carries most of a game's volume, the way it did in that Finals game. Spreads and totals trade too, at lower volume, and the prop count grows for a marquee game.

How NBA markets settle

The moneyline resolves to the team that wins the game. An NBA game has no tie: it goes to as many overtime periods as it takes to produce a winner, so unlike an NFL or NHL moneyline, there is no 50-50 settlement case for a completed game. A game that is postponed or has no makeup can still settle 50-50 if Polymarket rules it a no-contest; check the market's own rules for that edge case.

A spread such as "Spread: Knicks (-11.5)" resolves to the Knicks if they win by 12 or more points and to the other team otherwise, overtime included. A total such as an Over/Under line resolves Over if the two teams combine for more points than the line and Under otherwise. First-half and quarter markets settle the same way on that portion of the game only. Player props name their own sources and edge cases, including what happens if a player is inactive, in their own rules, so read those before betting one.

Reading an NBA price

A Polymarket share pays $1, so its price is a probability. A team at 60 cents is a 60% chance to win; buy $100 of that side and you hold about 167 shares that pay about $167 if the team wins.

A study of 61,981 large Polymarket NBA bets from April to July 2026 found no consistent gap between what buyers paid and what the games were worth: the overall edge was minus 0.21 points, an interval from minus 1.75 to plus 1.26 that includes zero, and it stayed near zero split by longshot, mid-priced and favorite, and split by moneyline, spread and total. The study is at 0xinsider.com/research/nba-betting-polymarket-sports. Read an NBA price as a fair estimate rather than expecting a structural edge on one side of it.

What home court was worth in the NBA

NBA home teams won 55.6% of 2,583 regular-season, play-in and playoff games settled on Polymarket from April 20, 2024 onward, with a half-width of 1.92 points, so the interval runs from 53.68% to 57.52% and does not include an even split, a larger and better-measured home edge than the NFL's or MLB's. By calendar year it ran from 55.3% to 56.3%. The study is at 0xinsider.com/research/home-field-advantage-polymarket, alongside every other league it measured.

Home court is also priced. Across large bets on home and away sides in every league that study measured, both sides came in within a point of what they paid, so a home-court bonus on top of an already-fair NBA price double-counts an edge the market has already priced in.

The spread ladder in the NBA

Polymarket lists an average of 4.2 settled spread lines per NBA game, across 1,381 games and 5,770 markets, fewer than the NFL's 5.9 or MLB's 4.7 but more than the NHL's 1.3. A ladder covers both teams, so a team can be backed to win by any margin the ladder lists, each line at its own price.

The point spread study's basketball cohort, 95.9% NBA trades by its own count, found laying the points, backing the team giving them, came in 5.32 points ahead of the price over 7,408 buys at an average of 52.3 cents, winning 57.6% of the time. Taking the points came in 5.41 points behind over 6,478 buys. Both intervals stop just short of clearing zero, so read it as a lean worth checking against the price rather than a rule. Totals, quarters and player props

The game total works like the spread ladder: one market per line, each paying Over or Under on the combined score. First-half moneyline, spread and total markets let you bet the first two quarters alone, and quarter markets narrow it further to a single quarter, where a shorter window means a single run of scoring decides more of the result.

Player props cover points, rebounds, assists and made threes for a game's featured players, priced as their own Over/Under or Yes/No markets. The guide at 0xinsider.com/learn/over-under-betting-explained covers how totals are priced generally and what the cross-sport data shows.

Live NBA betting

NBA markets keep trading after tip-off. In the pricing study above, 26,380 of the 61,981 large buys landed in-play, at an average implied probability of 63.5%, and in-play pricing came in about as close to fair as pre-tip pricing, plus 0.31 points against minus 0.25. That is flatter than the cross-sport timing study finds across all sports, where in-play prices are generally fairer to the buyer than prices placed days ahead; the NBA sample here shows little gap either way to begin with.

A limit order at your price avoids chasing a live line, and a resting order that fills pays no taker fee. To take a position off during the game, sell your shares; the guide at 0xinsider.com/learn/cash-out-betting-explained covers when that makes sense.

How to follow the NBA on 0xinsider

The NBA board at 0xinsider.com/sports/nba lists live and upcoming games once the season is running, live games first, with both teams' prices, chances, and the price move over the last hour and the last 24 hours. The board is withdrawn from discovery during the off-season, since there is nothing to list; it returns as soon as games are back on the schedule.

Open a game for its event page. The Markets section lists every market family with a line ranking where the money is, and the Top holders tab lists the wallets holding each side with the grade each has earned. The whale alerts feed at 0xinsider.com/whale-alerts shows every large trade as it fills, marked BUY or SELL, with the wallet's grade. The guide at 0xinsider.com/learn/how-to-find-sharp-money-polymarket-sports walks through that workflow step by step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you bet on the NBA on Polymarket?

Yes. Polymarket lists NBA games with a moneyline, a ladder of spreads, totals, first-half and quarter markets, and player props for points, rebounds, assists and threes. Each market pays $1 a share on its outcome, and the price is the market's probability.

Does an NBA moneyline on Polymarket ever settle 50-50?

Not for a completed game: the NBA plays overtime until a winner is decided, so the moneyline always resolves to a winner. A 50-50 settlement applies only to the rare no-contest case named in a market's own rules.

How often do NBA home teams win?

55.6% of 2,583 regular-season, play-in and playoff games settled on Polymarket from April 2024 onward, with a half-width of 1.92 points, an interval that does not include an even split.

Is there favorite-longshot bias in NBA betting on Polymarket?

Not one a 61,981-trade study could detect. Longshots under 30 cents and favorites at 70 cents and up both landed within a wide interval that includes zero, from April to July 2026.

How many spread lines does Polymarket list for an NBA game?

4.2 settled lines a game on average across 1,381 games, for both teams. A marquee game carries far more: the 2026 Finals' Knicks-Spurs Game 5 listed 41.
