An NFL game on Polymarket
Polymarket lists each NFL game as an event titled with the away team first, "Bills vs. Texans" for the Bills at the Texans. The moneyline pays $1 on the team that wins. Around it sit the other markets, grouped into families on the event page.
Take the Bills and Texans game on September 13, 2026. It carried a moneyline and a ladder of 35 spread markets, from Bills -0.5 to -21.5 and Texans -1.5 to -21.5. It had game totals and team totals, moneylines, spreads and totals for each quarter, second-half markets, and props: anytime touchdowns, two plus touchdowns, first touchdowns, passing yards, passing touchdowns, passing completions, rushing yards, receptions, receiving yards, exact margin, longest field goal, safety, two point conversions, team touchdowns and team offensive yards.
The money sits in the first three. On the 0xinsider event page for that game, 22 market families had traded $2.5 million: $1.5 million on the moneyline, $956,000 on spreads and $117,000 on the total.
How NFL markets settle
Each market's rules are on its page, and the main three read like this. The moneyline resolves to the team that wins; if the game ends in a tie, or is cancelled with no make-up game, it settles 50-50, so each share pays 50 cents. A postponed game keeps the market open until it is played.
A spread such as "Spread: Bills (-1.5)" resolves to the Bills if they win by 2 or more points and to the Texans otherwise, a tie included. A total such as "Bills vs. Texans: O/U 41.5" resolves Over if the two teams combine for 42 or more points and Under otherwise. Props name their own sources and edge cases in their rules, so read those before betting one.
Reading an NFL price
A Polymarket share pays $1, so its price is a probability. A team at 65¢ is a 65% chance to win; the other team is about 35¢. Buy $100 of the 65¢ side and you hold about 154 shares that pay about $154 if the team wins.
Sportsbook odds convert the same way. A favorite at -186 is 186 divided by 286, 65%; an underdog at +186 is 100 divided by 286, 35%. The chart below draws that conversion for the whole range. The difference is the margin: a book's two sides add up to more than 100%, while the two sides of a Polymarket market add up to about $1, and the cost of trading is the spread between the best bid and ask.
What home field was worth in the NFL
NFL home teams won 52.1% of 687 games settled on Polymarket from August 2024 to September 2026, with a half-width of 3.74 points, so the interval still includes an even split. By calendar year it was 51.3% over 304 games in 2024 and 53.7% over 296 in 2025. That is the smallest home edge of the six US leagues in the study at 0xinsider.com/research/home-field-advantage-polymarket, where NBA home teams won 55.2% and college football home teams 64.7%.
Home advantage is also in the price. Across 104,703 large Polymarket bets on home and away sides in every league measured, both sides came in within a point of what they paid. The NFL's own pricing sample is too small to read yet, 183 large buys, so treat home field as a small edge the market already counts, not a reason to back the home team.
The spread ladder and key numbers
Polymarket lists more spread lines for football than for any other sport: 5.9 settled lines per NFL game on average, against 4.2 for the NBA and 4.7 for MLB. The ladder covers both teams, so you can back the Bills to win by 2 or more at -1.5, by 4 or more at -3.5, or the Texans to win by 3 or more at -2.5, each at its own price.
Football scoring comes in threes and sevens, a field goal and a touchdown with its extra point, which is why bettors watch the lines that sit either side of 3 and 7. When a game lists both -2.5 and -3.5, compare what the extra point of margin costs. The guide at 0xinsider.com/learn/point-spread-betting-explained covers spreads in full.
Totals, team totals and halves
The game total is a ladder too, one market per line, each paying Over or Under on the combined score. Team totals do the same for one team's points, and the quarter and half markets let you bet a part of the game: a first-quarter moneyline, a second-half total.
A shorter window is a noisier bet. A quarter is a quarter of the playing time, so a single drive decides more of the result. The guide at 0xinsider.com/learn/over-under-betting-explained covers how totals are priced and what the data shows across sports.
Live NFL betting
NFL markets keep trading after kickoff, and the prices move with the score. Across sports, 48.6% of large Polymarket buys in the April to September 2026 timing study landed after the start, and in-play prices were fairer to the buyer than prices days before the game; the study is at 0xinsider.com/research/when-large-sports-bets-land.
A limit order at your price avoids chasing a moving market, and a resting order that fills pays no taker fee. To take a position off during the game, sell your shares; the guide at 0xinsider.com/learn/cash-out-betting-explained covers when that makes sense.
How to follow the NFL on 0xinsider
The NFL board at 0xinsider.com/sports/nfl lists live and upcoming NFL games that have an active Polymarket market, live games first. Each card shows both teams' prices and chances, the price move over the last hour and the last 24 hours, the quarter and score for a live game, and the game's most traded prop markets.
Open a game for its event page. The Markets section lists every market family with a line ranking where the money is, and the Top holders tab lists the wallets holding each side with the grade each has earned. The whale alerts feed at 0xinsider.com/whale-alerts shows every large trade as it fills, marked BUY or SELL, with the wallet's grade. The guide at 0xinsider.com/learn/how-to-find-sharp-money-polymarket-sports walks through that workflow step by step.
